Quantum computing
Sinds de eerst gemaakte computer is de kracht van computers exponentieel gegroeid. Dit heeft ervoor gezorgd dat het al deze jaren mogelijk was om krachtigere en kleinere computers te maken. Helaas begint het einde hiervan in zicht te komen, de losse onderdelen van een computer beginnen namelijk even groot als een atoom te worden. Dit zorgt ervoor dat de wetten van kwantum mechanica belangrijk beginnen te worden. De klassieke computer werkt dan niet.
Om dit probleem op te lossen wordt er gebruik gemaakt van quantum computing die de fenomenen van de kwantummechanica (de Wet van Moore ’to the max’: 0, 1 en alles daartussen…) in hun eigen voordeel gebruiken en een enorme sprong voorwaarts kunnen maken in de berekening om problemen op te lossen.
Met Quantum computing kunnen we berekeningen maken die vele malen sneller gaan dan een normale computer.
Kwantum mechanica
Kwantum mechanica is de natuurkunde van de kleinste dingen die er bestaan. Denk hierbij aan moleculen en atomen (en zelfs nog kleiner). Deze kleine deeltjes volgen niet dezelfde natuurkunde wetten die op grote schaal wel van toepassing zijn. Voor meer informatie over kwantum mechanica kan je de onderstaande video bekijken. Het hoogste aantal Qbits, in tegenstelling tot normale bits is op het moment 127. Dit is bereikt door IBM.
De mogelijkheden van kwantum computers
De mogelijkheden die kwantum computers bieden zijn bijna eindeloos, en toepasbaar in bijna alle aspecten.
Voorbeelden van oplossingen met quantum computing zijn:
- Transport: Volkswagen heeft in een samenwerking met D-Wave een oplossing pakket geprobeerd om het travelling salesman probleem op te lossen.
- Financiën: Een Quantum computer kan helpen bij het voorspellen van financiële markten en aan de hand van deze voorspellingen automatisch handelen.
- Gezondheid: met behulp van quantum computing kan je het perfecte geneesmiddel op moleculair niveau kunnen maken
- Milieu: Door quantum computing te gebruiken is het mogelijk om grote hoeveelheden variabelen te gebruiken en zo verschillende oorzaken of accelerators van klimaat verandering kunnen opzoeken.
- Energie: quantum computing kan het mobiliteit-problemen oplossen of uitzoeken welk materiaal bij kamertemperatuur nog supergeleidend is. Dit heeft een enorme impact op onze energievoorziening.
Kwantum computers door de jaren
Sinds de Jaren 70 van de vorige eeuw wordt er al gewerkt aan het maken van een kwantum computer en hier zijn ondertussen ook grote stappen in ondernomen. Toch is het helaas nog niet gelukt om een stabiele kwantum computer te maken. De besproken onderwerpen zijn daarom helaas ook nog grotendeels theorie en in de praktijk nog niet in werkelijkheid gebracht.
